Wonderful comments today as well!
To Naan; I do accept private commissions for paintings. It is something I enjoy. If you want to pursue this further please contact me through Veronica.
You also asked whether I do covers to an author's specifications. The answer is yes, but not completely because the art director has final say. He or she has to make the typography work and there are a whole lot of design issues that have to do with marketing that the author may not be aware of. Some authors that I have a personal relationship with do work with me more than usual to get the cover right. But honestly, it works best when they leave me alone, after giving me the information. Art can't be done by committee.
Silvietta asked about an exhibition in Italy. The idea of an exhibition is very interesting, but would take some time. I have my paintings stored in Maine at my brother's house and it is difficult to get there. Also I have to frame them and ship them. I wouldn't be asking a fee, except for help with the shipping costs, but it would be best if the exhibit was for a good length of time, like a month and at a reputable place.
March Rose was talking about sexuality in the cover art. I like the art to be sensual, but not blatant. It's strange, but men like the intrique of clothing and semi undress, too. I remember when I was at art college , I was drawing from the figure 6 hours a day 3 days a week. I lost any feeling of sexuality when looking at the models. Except when the either came out in their robe and took it off, or when they put it back on! Some clues there for what I find sexy. Romance is something deeper. I remember my first love. It was strong, spiritual and so intense! I think I would have done anything she sked. It ended badly, alas!
I would love to hear more from all of you about what you like and don't like about romance covers. The men, the women, the amount od sensuality, anything and everything!
Thanks, James
