First of all I'd like to thank Veronica for this interview, and mr. Griffin for his kindness and willingness in sharing his work with us.
I was especially struck by seeing how much an illustrator can understand of what we readers need and wish, as it comes to the covers of our cherished novels - even more than editors. very often.
Who can understand the visual, sensorial delight of covers better than us romance lovers ... how it feels seeing them first in a bookstore, then in our own bookshelves!
In my humble opinion as an "observer", I can confirm that models are not what does the cover - they will never be able to compare to our fantasy, poor things :)
They have their role, of course, but it's the backstage, the colours, the shots, even the font used for the title to create the whole thing!
After reading this interview, I have to apologize to mr. Griffin for having often raged against his category :-)
I have often wondered about the reason of so many differences between the cover and the content, both as plot and characters, of a given book... but you know, we readers are very demanding!
Through this interview I have come to realize how little we know about the work and the role of an illustrator.
I really hope, mr. Griffin, that in future you can have a greater visibility - even the simple fact of knowing that your name is linked to a given novel means more complete info for us too... so, besides comparing our tastes about literary genres and books, we will also be able to compare, know and appreciate illustrators' works, associating them to names and faces at last!
Thanks,
Lalletta
