Dear Lisa, I really can’t
Dear Lisa, I really can’t start to tell you how happy I am for this interview. I love your books and I’ve just spent a very satisfying weekend with Blue-Eyed Devil.
Your first book that I read was Suddenly you, and I was really impressed by your style and the quality of your writing, this prompted me to read the Wallflowers, leading me to find one of my all time favourite, Devil In Winter. After reading more of your books, especially your contemporaries, I found amazing the way you can change subject and environment given the reader something new, each time, but still manage to stay true to yourself.
Yet you can always surprise us! I find really thrilling this new series revolving around the Romany culture; I think this is really a daring move, consider how the Roma where viewed in the 19th century, and the difficulties in researching this fascinating but somehow obscure world.
Talking about this, could you please satisfy a small curiosity? Why did you choose to pair Cam Rohan with Anne, a real misfit, instead of sweet but spirited Daisy? I would have loved to see the two together!
I loved both sugar daddy and Blue-eyed Devil, the way you’ve built the stories of liberty and Haven is really compelling, the love story is a part of their life, not the main focus, though really important; I really appreciated the author’s notes at the end of BED, I think that is really important talking about these issues, and popular fiction should deal more often with them. Are you going to write other contemporaries? Maybe about Joe and Jack?
One last question! How important is your friendship with fellow writers in your life and work? In your acknowledgments notes you mention the Squakers and others, do you ask them for advice, confront and comfort? How did they view your stepping into contemporary?
Thanks for your patience!
Doris
