I'm reading “Beyond Innocence” and until now, the thing that left a very strong impression on me is the Edvard's internal battle between the desire to help his brother and the attraction he feels for Florence. The descriptions of the erotic scenes are more explicit than they usually are in romance novels, but still I do not find them excessive. After all, If one needs to describe a passionate scene, I prefer a realistic description over allusive terms in the '800's style. Maybe synonyms for the word “penis” that were used in some passages in the Italian version of the book sound a bit too vulgar, but it might be the fact that the time setting of the book is the one to render the impact of a certain word stronger than it should be. It would be useful to know what was the word used originally in the English version to understand if the effect is the same.
