Maurice is wonderful, and the innovation to have a HAPPY EVER AFTER in a book like that was brave and wonderful of him. Unreal, possibly, but still heart warming.

The thing about Standish is that it started out to be a Breeches Ripper or a Cod-piece ripper or whatever the current term is, but as soon as the characters took over it just became more than that.

The next novel (hopefully, if I can get it published) - Trangressions - is the same - starts off as a love story and then spirals off into a darker place.

I'm very happy about your comments on Standish, I hadn't seen that side of Rafe - but YES you are completely right. It's a lot about worship, and that can't work in a real relationship.
