While traveling to London, Lady Isabella St. Just, the earl of Blakely's wife, is abducted for ramson by some villains. Soon she finds out they are not going to free her, even after the payment of a great sum of money. On the contrary, their boss seems have already decided she must die. 
She has to do something, and do it soon, to save her own life. She  succeeds in fleeing from the hut where she's held as prisoner, but she just happens to fall in the arms of a much more dangerous man, Alec Tyron, the lord of London underworld.  Alec is handsome and attractive, his people fear and respect him, and he feels suddenly attracted by Isabella. He decides to protect her and to discover who wants her dead. In the meantime, passion aflame. 

It's a very beautiful story, with a lot of action and  very charming scenes; and characters are so well defined.
Alec is not the usual nobleman, he's a lower man, a thief, an assassin, who rised from the bottom of society and become the king of this dark kingdom, that one of robberies, murderers, gambling, ransoms, smuggling... he's cynic and has no scruples, yet he is capable to feel deeply and accept the bond growing between him and Isabella, even with a kind of vulnerability and ingenuity.
Isabella has never been loved by anybody, not by her father, who gave her in spouse to a friend just to get rid of her, not by her husband, who wedded her just for money. She knows she's not beautiful, and she finds irresistible the fact tha a man so handsome like Alec, so misterious and dark, can show her so much kindness, and attention, feeling... and love... a so great and unselfish love, she cannot help returning, you cannot help praising.

Durante il suo viaggio verso Londra, Lady Isabella St. Just, moglie del conte di Blakely, viene rapita da alcuni malviventi i quali chiedono un riscatto. Presto però, Isabella scopre che non è loro intenzione liberarla, neppure dopo che è stata loro pagata una grossa somma. Il loro capo ha infatti già deciso che dovrà invece morire.
Per salvarsi, Isabella deve fare qualcosa, e deve farlo subito. Riesce a scappare dalla baracca in cui è tenuta prigioniera, ma finisce per cadere nelle braccia di un uomo ben più pericoloso, Alec Tyron, il signore della delinquenza di Londra. Alec è bello e attraente, e si sente immediatamente attratto da Isabella. Decide di proteggerla e di scoprire chi la vuole morta. Nel frattempo, la passione divampa.

E' una storia molto bella, ricca di azione e di avvenimenti, con scene deliziose e personaggi molto ben definiti.  Alec non è il solito nobile, è un uomo di basse origini, un ladro, un assassino, che si è fatto strada affrancandosi dai bassifondi per diventare il re di questo oscuro regno di ruberie, assassini, scommesse, rapimenti, contrabbando... è cinico e non ha scrupoli, eppure è capace di provare profonde emozioni e di accettare il forte legame che cresce tra lui e Isabella, anche con una certa dose di vulnerabilità e di ingenuità.
Isabella non è mai stata amata, non da suo padre, che l'ha data in sposa ad un amico solo per liberarsi di lei, non da suo marito, che l'ha sposata solo per il suo denaro. E' consapevole di non essere bella, e trova irresistibile il fatto che un uomo bellissimo come Alec, un uomo così misterioso e oscuro, possa mostrarle tanta tenerezza, attenzioni, affetto... e amore... un amore così grande e generoso, che lei non può fare a meno di ricambiare... e voi di apprezzare.
