For writers, I think paranormals are popular because those stories have a sort of "built in" conflict -- I'm not human, the person I love is (or vice versa). How can this relationship work out? For readers, what seems evil really isn't (the "nice" vampire) or is defeated, and that's a comfort in this day and age.

I won't say I'll never do a paranormal romance because I've learned "never say never" in this business, but right now, the idea just doesn't appeal to me. I find people and their conflicts fascinating enough; I don't need or want an extra supernatural element.
