Car mechanic and sometime shapeshifter Mercy Thompson has learned, the hard way, why her race was almost exterminated. When European vampires immigrated to North America, they found Mercy's people had a hidden talent - for vampire slaying. Unfortunately for Mercy, the queen of the local vampire seethe has discovered her true identity. She's also furious when she learns Mercy has crossed her and killed one of her vampires. Mercy may be protected from direct reprisals by the werewolf pack (and her interesting relationship with its Alpha), but that just means Marsilia will come after Mercy some other way. So Mercy had better prepare to watch her back.
Mercy Thompson, di professione meccanico d’automobili e qualche volta mutaforma, ha imparato nel modo più duro perchè la sua razza è stata quasi sterminata. Quando i vampiri europei sono emigrati nel Nord America, hanno scoperto che la razza di Mercy aveva un talento nascosto – per uccidere i vampiri. Sfortunatamente per Mercy, la regina della congrega dei vampiri della città ha scoperto la sua vera identità. Oltre a ciò, va su tutte le furie quando viene a sapere che Mercy le si è schierata contro e ha ucciso uno dei suoi vampiri. Mercy può anche essere al riparo da rappresaglie dirette grazie alla protezione del branco dei licantropi (e dalla sua interesante relazione con il loro Alfa), ma questo sognifica solo che Marsilia darà la caccia a Mercy in qualche altro modo. Quindi Mercy farà meglio a prepararsi e a guardarsi le spalle..
