Dabel Brothers Production ("DB Pro") announced that they have just signed an exclusive contract with New York Times bestselling author Kinley MacGregor to adapt the first five novels in her highly anticipated fantasy and romance series, LORDS OF AVALON.

LORDS OF AVALON: SWORD OF DARKNESS will be produced as a monthly 22-page comic, with a script expertly penned by Roynne Gillespie (THE BURNING MAN) and illustrations by an artist soon to be announced. A graphic novel edition should be available in bookstores.

SWORD OF DARKNESS, the first novel in the series, tells the story of a dark-hearted knight named Kerrigan who wields the demonic sword Caliburn, Excalibur’s polar opposite. Camelot has fallen to the forces of evil, and the knights of the round reside in Avalon, waiting for the birth of the one they call “Penmerlin,” a special person who will lead the lesser wizards of the realm. They select a young maiden named Seren to be the mother of this figure, but a “rescue” from Kerrigan results in her falling in love and eventually becoming pregnant with his child. Seren must choose between abandoning the evil knight and training her child in the path of light or staying with Kerrigan and attempting to help him turn away from the life he has chosen.

Harlequin Manga Comes to Dark Horse

HARLEQUIN ENTERPRISES LIMITED announced a content licensing agreement with Dark Horse Comics, which will see the comics publisher release Harlequin books in manga format in the United States, Canada, U.K. and Australia.

Under the agreement, DARK HORSE will publish manga adaptations of topselling Harlequin titles under the Harlequin Ginger Blossom banner. Harlequin Ginger Blossom will be divided into two color-coded lines-a "pink" line, which is aimed at younger readers, and a "violet" line, intended for more sophisticated readers.

"We are delighted to be working with a company of Dark Horse's creativity on this new venture," stated Donna Hayes, Publisher and CEO of Harlequin. "Harlequin romances are timeless, and this partnership allows us to bring our compelling editorial to a younger readership in a format that they find relevant."

Harlequin has considerable experience with the manga format. Since 1998, under a licensing arrangement with HARLEQUIN, Ohzora Publishing Company, a leading creator of manga titles for women, has successfully published manga versions of over 250 Harlequin titles in Japan.

"Harlequin's strength is creating stories that women of all ages find engaging," said Pam Laycock, Executive Vice President, New Business Development and Strategy. "Dark Horse recognizes that there is vast potential for the growth of manga in North America. At the same time, there is currently no manga for young women that captures the richness of the Harlequin experience. We believe this partnership leverages both these opportunities."
