Hello again! Thank you all
Hello again! Thank you all for the comments -- particularly those who have not read m/m before but were willing to give it a chance.
I have a gay friend who reads my stories before I send them to the publisher--I realize that, as a woman, I might miss important details--and I was somewhat surprised (and very relieved!) when he said that he found Will and David's feelings realistic. We discussed the differences between men and women--women tend to enjoy longer courtship and loveplay, while for young men things move very fast--but it seems that the desire to find someone to love and trust, who will love and trust us in return, seems to be very much the same for men and women, gay and hetero. That's why I focus on the emotions in my stories, rather than sheer physicality; I think that even though men and women are different in many ways, in our hearts we are more alike than different.
To March Rose, and anyone else who has no strong opinion one way or another--if you are indifferent, I would suggest you not take the poll. This isn't really a general question about what genre is more popular; it is a specific test so that my publisher can decide whether it's worthwhile to translate any of their m/m books into Italian. Linden Bay is a very small publisher at this time, and every new step has to be carefully considered.
If they should decide to go ahead with a translation of Ransom and it does well, that would improve the chances of not only my other books being translated, but other Linden Bay books as well. I don't think LBR has any time-travel titles at the moment, though there are vampire and ghost stories. I am very excited about the possibility of translation, because e-books seem to be very popular in Europe, and it is a way for small publishers to reach out in a way that only the very big, well-funded publishers could afford to do with print books.
I do realize that not everyone is interested in m/m, just as not everyone is interested in yaoi or werewolves. I thank you all for your interest and hospitality, and for participating in this experiment!
